Six Scouts from Troop 514 La Grande OR participated at the annual Klondike Derby near Tollgate OR. Six adults accompanied them. I brought up a birthday cake and celebrated my 80th birthday with the Scouts and then sleeping in my tent overnight.
The next morning, the boys competed at ten stations on the “Klondike Trail.” Two older scouts led four first year scouts to a third place finish.

This was a compass course where all the scouts except the leader were blindfolded. The leader had to properly follow the bearings he was given.
