The Cat’s Back in Wallowa County is almost as far to the northeast in Oregon as you can get. From this ridge, looking inn opposite directions, you can see both the Wallowa Mts of Oregon and the Seven Devils Mts of Idaho. Jerry Gildemeister and Don Gray published a book in 1989 entitled, “Arond the Cat’s Back.” This account, written by Daisy Wasson, describes growing up on the Cat’s Back with her homesteading family starting in 1885. She recalls “ all clean, lovely waving grass, cold water, tall trees, and mountain scenery too beautiful for words to describe.”
