Up the East Fork of the Lostine river into the Eagle Cap Wilderness, located Wallowa County, Oregon. After a 4.5 mile hike, Bob and I set up camp in the long, glaciated meadow the leads up to Eagle Cap itself.
Rain had been predicted for late afternoon, and sure enough, it arrived. Lightning and thunder rumbled, and one loud clap woke me up from a nap. It rained hard for a couple of hours. Fortunately, the tent held up well. I boiled water for my freeze dried meal in my spacious tent vestibule. And then came a spectacular sunset that included a partial rainbow directly above Eagle Cap!
Maybe I should plan outings when I know there is going to be a thunderstorm.
